Best Buy will gradually stop selling physical media.
In early 2024, Best Buy will stop selling actual DVDs and Blu-ray discs both in-person and online.
The Digital Bits, a home entertainment site, broke the news of the consumer electronics retailer's decision to gradually stop selling actual media, on Thursday. However, because the website wasn't loading (and still isn't as of this writing), it was dismissed as a rumor. Variety received official confirmation from the corporation on Friday.
In a statement, a representative for Best Buy stated that "to state the obvious, the way we watch movies and TV shows is much different today than it was decades ago." "Making this change gives us more space and opportunity to bring customers new and innovative tech for them to explore, discover and enjoy."
Unknown at this time, but Best Buy's definition of "new and innovative tech" in terms of buying movies and TV series. One individual with knowledge of the situation claims that the corporation decided to stop selling DVDs nine months ago.
Two weeks after Netflix shipped its final DVDs to customers, giving them the option to keep their final discs if they so desired, Best Buy announced its decision to discontinue DVD and Blu-ray sales on its physical and digital shops. In the era of streaming services, Best Buy and Netflix are no longer present in the physical media market, so customers who wish to purchase tangible copies of their preferred films and TV episodes can still do so through Walmart, Target, Amazon, and other stores. In addition, you can rent DVDs from Redbox kiosks outside and inside of any retail establishment.
The holiday shopping season will see the continued sale of physical media from Best Buy, which had 1,129 store locations as of mid-2023 (including 969 in the US), before the sales end sometime between January and March 2024. Video game physical copies will still be sold, though.
Ensure that the game cases include discs and not paper download codes.
